PROPOSED 2015 BUDGET (as previously printed in December newsletter)

At the board meeting prior to the November meeting, the budget for 2015 was discussed with the results below. Discussion will follow at the January meeting.

MISSOULA IRIS SOCIETY BOARD MEETING MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 1, 2014

The board meeting of November 1, 2014 was called to order by President Ed Verplancke at 4:33 p.m at Eagles Lodge. Other board members present were Gary Clark, vice president, Swede Gustafson, Treasurer and Carol Addeo, Secretary. Also present were members Betty Ann Gustafson and Anita Cervenak.

Rhizome Card File: Discussion of the card file list on Alverta Symes computer. Ed will continue to make new file cards as needed. Carol has the laminating equipment at her home so a work party needs to be scheduled for this winter to update the card file from last July sale. General consensus that unless a volunteer steps forward to maintain the computer list, we may not be able to keep it up as well as our dear friend Alverta did.

Schedule of 2015 events: The schedule of events, meetings and meeting locations was planned. The schedule will be printed following the minutes below and will be printed on our website.

Budget Discussions:

Median Show – to be held at the Ft Missoula Building T-1 on May 30, 2015 from 8 am to 2 pm.

Rhizome Sale – Budget was increased to cover advertising. Missoulian has promised a refund of an overcharge. The cost of $356 was charged, which was an overcharge for a non profit group. The only other advertising charged was for the Ravalli Republic and Valley Press. Discussion of putting up A- frame signs on main residential streets next year. Also of using all the free spots available on tv, radio and Missoulian. Ed put an ad on Craig’s List. (Addendum to the minutes: Missoulian did refund a portion of the cost)

Ft Missoula Garden – Swede wants to extend the garden wall. Discussion of hiring professional contract labor for things such as sprinkler repairs and to hire a non professional weeder for 4 hours a week at $10 per hour. A schedule would be made up for two times 14 weeks, total of 56 hours at a projected budget of $560.00 or under $600 to avoid having to file federal tax. Projected schedule would be two times in May, four times in June, three times in July, three in August, and two times in September.

Addendum to the minutes: Carol Addeo suggested her neighbor high school student Arthur Befumo, age 17 who resides at 3333 Eldora Lane. He is a senior at Hellgate High School, is a National Merit Scholarship student. He has worked for Carol once a week for three years, and is very dependable and knowledgeable about plants and gardening. He will accept the gardening position if offered to him.

Newsletter – Budget increased to $250 for monthly newsletter.

The budget session and board meeting was adjourned at 5:40 p.m. The total budget will be published in the December and January 2014 newsletter and will be voted on in January.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Addeo

Secretary

MISSOULA IRIS SOCIETY MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 1, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge.

The minutes of the October meeting were approved with one correction as printed in the newsletter. Gary corrected that he was not part of the nominating committee. The treasurer’s report was also approved with one correction as published in the newsletter. Swede corrected one item; he paid $100 to the Eagles for use of their meeting room. The item was not in the October reports under expenditures.

Reminder: Memberships are due for 2015 at $10 per member for the year.

Fred Frey reported that the Missoulian has been difficult to get a resolution regarding the overcharge for advertising. He is hoping for a possible reimbursement through his contact, Annie. (Addendum to the minutes: Missoulian did refund a portion of the cost)

Nominating Committee: No report. Jim Sadler, the nominating committee chair was not in attendance so no nominations were made.

Discussion of possible officers for 2015. Ed commented that being president is not a lot of work but he wants to go on record as requesting more participation of members. He will continue handling the website, the card file pictures, work at Fort Gardens, including ordering new rhizomes and planting them, and maintenance of the gardens. He did say he was willing to be president one more year.

A motion was made by Betty Ann to postpone nominations until the next meeting January 10, 2015. Seconded by Swede and passed.

Meeting locations: Carol Addeo scheduled some meetings for 2015 with members who are willing to host. The schedule of meetings is printed below following these minutes.

Swede reported that our lawn mower no longer exists; it wouldn’t start any more. So now we have more room in the storage shed.

Presidential rhizome: The presidential rhizome winner for November is Gary Clark.

The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Addeo

Secretary
