MINUTES OF THE MISSOULA IRIS SOCIETY OF MAY May 2, 2015

Missoula Iris Society meeting was called to order by President Donna Dowell at 7:10 p.m. at the home of Gary Clark. There were 10 members present.

Minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer's report were accepted as printed in the newsletter.

OLD BUSINESS

Show Report: The date of the annual iris show is June 6.

Gary Clark reported that there is a good supply of ribbons and white tags in our storage shed so we don’t need to make more. The tablecloths have been ironed by Anita Cervenak and are back in the storage shed. The head judge is Cindy Davis; clerks are needed.

The schedule will be mailed to judges and participants by Jim Sadler. Design category cards need to be typed; Jim will do it. Swede will haul containers from the shed; cold water will be needed.

Set up will be Friday June 5 at 7 p.m. in Penney’s Court. Show flower preparation will begin Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. Judging begins at 10:00 a.m. Take-down will be at 8:00 p.m. A brief reminder of liability; all spills should be promptly wiped up.

Publicity Report: Publicity Chair Fred Frey passed out posters for the show and for the rhizome sale on July 25. He had 50 posters printed at Mike’s Print Shop (formerly Denny’s). Posters will be put out two weeks before each event. Carol will place two at the kiosk at Ft Missoula.

Garden Judging Class: Jim Sadler will lead a garden judging class for MIS judges on Monday May 11 at 5:00 p.m. at Fort Missoula gardens. Jim will contact Lynn Weger by e mail.

Bibler Garden Tour (Kalispell): May 7 sponsored by the 5 Valleys Dahlia and Glad Society. Cost is $10.00. For carpooling, meet at Target parking lot on No. Reserve at 10:00 a.m. Tour begins at 1 p.m. Gary Clark is the coordinator.

NEW BUSINESS

Fort Garden Work Parties: Next work party at Ft Missoula garden is Sunday May 17 at 10:00 AM, another June 14 at 10:00 AM.

Sunshine Report: Carol thanked the society and Betty Ann Gustafson on behalf of her mother Dorothy Alcaraz for the potted azalea plant. Dorothy has been ill for several weeks, but now seems to be recovering.

Deer Out: Carol reported that Deer Out spray does work to deter deer damage; even tulips have survived to bloom. Deer Out can be purchased at the Ace Garden Center and holds up well even after rain fall. Some members suggested a concoction of oil, cloves and Tabasco.

Fort Gardens: Swede reported that while he was working in the gardens cleaning the Siberian beds, many people passed through and praised the MIS members for keeping our gardens going at Ft Missoula. The volunteer signup sheets are now available, with a few minor changes.

Presidential Rhizome winner: May winner is Fred Frey

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
