Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski finds his laid-back lifestyle in jeopardy as he is targeted by thugs who have mistaken him for another man with the same name. He seeks out the "Big Lebowski" (David Huddleston) in hopes of being reimbursed for his favorite rug but instead becomes involved in a complex kidnapping scheme. The film takes place all throughout Los Angeles.

In one of the opening shots, a tumbleweed rolls past Benitos Taco Shop - now a Chevron at the corner of West 3rd Street and South Edinburgh Avenue.

We are introduced to The Dude as he shops in the dairy section of Ralph's Supermarket at 1745 Garfield Avenue in South Pasadena.

The Dude discusses the situation with bowling buddies Walter (John Goodman) and Donny (Steve Buscemi) at their favorite hangout - Hollywood Star Lanes at 5227 Santa Monica Boulevard. It has since been torn down, but the parking lot that was to the west of the building (where much of the film's action takes place) still remains.

As Walter tells the back story of Jesus (John Turturro), we see him walking door-to-door along North Kenmore Avenue between Lily Crest Avenue & Monroe Street.

The Dude's bungalow was filmed at 609 Venezia Avenue in Venice, CA (this is also the address given in his checkbook). This complex of six buildings was renovated in 2005 and no longer appear the same as they did in the film.

The Big Lebowski's mansion was filmed at two different houses - the interiors were done at popular filming location Greystone Mansion at 905 Loma Vista Drive. This was also the venues where Jeff Bridges played with his brother Beau in The Fabulous Baker Boys.

Exterior shots of the mansion were filmed at 10231 Charing Cross Drive.

Walter's place of business, "Sobchak Security" is now Eden Therapy Collective at 6757 Santa Monica Boulevard.

The "wooden bridge" where The Dude and Walter flub the money drop with the kidnappers is the Torrey Road bridge over Santa Clara River near Pimu, CA. In reality, it is not a wooden bridge at all, the filmmakers added a wood deck to it for filming.

Maude Lebowski's (Julianne Moore) studio is located above the Palace Theater at 630 South Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. The inside of the theater was used for Marty's (Jack Kehler) dance recital. This theater may look familiar as the one in Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Walter and The Dude talk about little toes over coffee at Johnie's Restaurant at 6101 Wilshire Boulevard.

Walter loses his cool after trying to interrogate the young boy they suspect of stealing the ransom money at 1824 Stearns Drive.

The beach party where The Dude meets Jackie Treehorn (Ben Gazzara) is Point Dume State Beach in Malibu, which has been used in countless films including the original Planet of the Apes.

The interiors of Jackie Treehorn's palatial mansion were filmed at 10104 Angelo View Drive.

The Dude is kicked out of a taxi for insulting the drivers' choice of music on Jefferson Boulevard at Duquesne Avenue in Culver City. Supposed kidnapping victim Bunny Lebowski (Tara Reid) then zooms by him listening to "Viva Las Vegas."

The Dude confronts the private eye who has been following him (Jon Polito) outside his place on Venezia Avenue.
