Summer School (1987)
In this entertaining but cheesy 80s comedy, Mark Harmon stars as Freddy Shoop, laid-back high school gym teacher who has his summer plans ruined by having to teach a summer school class. The film takes place entirely in Los Angeles, CA.
"Oceanfront High School" was actually Charles Evans Hughes Middle School at 3846 California Avenue in Long Beach. This was also the school from The Karate Kid.
The go-kart track was filmed at Malibu Grand Prix (now Speed Zone) at 17871 Castelton Street in City of Industry.
The theme park the class visits is Knott's Berry Farm at 8039 Beach Boulevard in Buena Park.
While trying to teach Denise (Kelly Jo Minter) to drive, they stop in front of 1216 West 37th Street in San Pedro.
Mr. Shoop's sweet pad on the beach was at 2815 Ocean Front Walk in Venice, however it has since been replaced with a different building.
The buildings behind him in this scene still look very much the same.
Mr. Shoop is released from jail at Highland Park Police Station at 6045 York Boulevard in Highland Park.
"Chainsaw" (Dean Cameron) lives at 3906 Bluff Place in San Pedro.
While taking his driving test, Chainsaw causes a pileup at the corner of West 37th Street & Meyler Street in San Pedro.
The final beach scene (an homage to From Here to Eternity) was filmed at Point Dume State Beach in Malibu. This location is famous in movies such as Planet of the Apes, The Big Lebowski and Iron Man.
