Maximum Overdrive (1986)

Based on a Stephen King classic, machines mysteriously come to life and go on a killing rampage. One group takes shelter in a small town gas station in North Carolina.

The opening scene of the film features Stephen King in a cameo role attempting to use an ATM that will not cooperate. This was shot just off Princess Street on the riverfront in Wilmington. The building was demolished in 2009 and replaced with condos (thanks to Charles H.).
