Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) is a veteran Los Angeles cop who is ready to ease into retirement when he is partnered with the on-the-edge Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) as they investigate a drug-smuggling ring involving Vietnam veterans. This explosive action movie was filmed all over Los Angeles. Thanks to Chas at Itsfilmedthere for finding the majority of these locations.
In the opening scene, Amanda Hunsacker (Jackie Swanson) is seen leaping to her death from the International Tower at 700 East Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach.
The Murtaugh household was filmed on "Blondie Street" at the Warner Brothers Ranch backlot at 411 North Hollywood Way in Burbank. I already went into some detail on this location on the Monster Squad page. This location is closed to the public.

Riggs lives in a trailer on Dockweiler State Beach, off Vista Del Mar where it meets West Grand Avenue. His trailer was in front of the parking lot, marked by a small culvert under the biking path.

Riggs is seen driving north on Glendale Boulevard past North Alvarado Street to his next call (this scene is not in the theatrical version).
Riggs arrives at City Terrace Elementary at 4350 City Terrace Drive in Monterey Park, where a sniper is shooting at kids on the playground from the house at 4318 Comly Street.
Murtaugh investigates the scene of the "suicide" and questions a prostitute named Dixie (Lycia Naff) back at the International Tower.

Riggs conducts an undercover drug bust in a Christmas tree lot, set up in the car dealership at 12460 Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood.

Murtaugh meets with his old war buddy Michael Hunsacker (Tom Atkins) inside the Wilshire at Western building at 3800 Wilshire Boulevard.
Riggs and Murtaugh grab hotdogs outside, on the SW corner of Wilshire Boulevard & South Western Avenue.
Their next call is a suicide jumper on the roof of Emser Tile at 8431 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.
After Riggs coaxes him down, Murtaugh has a talk with him next door at 8441 Santa Monica Boulevard.
After the last incident, Murtaugh is concerned about Riggs and makes a call on the Universal Studios Boulevard overpass over the Hollywood Freeway (Highway 101) in Universal City.

The gun range scenes were supposedly filmed at the Santa Anita Shooting Range at 417 East Huntington Drive in Monrovia, which is no longer in operation.
When Riggs and Murtaugh pay Dixie a visit, they are in for surprise. Her house was located on the NE corner of West 111th Street & Larch Avenue in Lennox, CA. However, obviously the building no longer survives. The space is now occupied by Moffett Elementary School. In fact, even the houses across the street where they interrogate the neighborhood kids are now a parking lot.

Michael Hunsacker's amazing oceanfront house is located at 2817 Via Segovia in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
Riggs tries to find more answers at the corner of West 3rd Street and South Sweetzer Avenue.
Murtaugh looks on from what is now Douglas Fir Feet at 8304 West 3rd Street.
As hired killer Joshua (Gary Busey) drives by on Sweetzer Avenue, his gunfire sends Riggs through the window of what is now Allan Jeffries Framing at 8301 West 3rd Street.
Murtaugh tries to get back his kidnapped daughter (Traci Wolfe) at El Mirage dry lake bed in the Mojave Desert of San Bernadino County. This popular film location was also seen in Terminator 2 and Maverick (also with Mel Gibson).

Riggs, Murtaugh and Rianne (Wolfe) escape from The General's (Mitch Ryan) club in the Pussycat Theatre, now the Jesus Is Lord church at 6656 Hollywood Boulevard.
The shootout spills out onto Hollywood Boulevard, as Joshua steals a car outside Musso & Frank's Grill across the street and heads west, eventually turning north onto North Las Palmas Avenue.
This is where Riggs and Murtaugh begin to pursue on foot, as they run right down the middle of Hollywood Boulevard.
Murtaugh gives up at the corner of Hollywood & Las Palmas, and watches Riggs run off north on Las Palmas. Expo 2000 in the background is now the Hollywood Bazaar Food Market at 6701 Hollywood Boulevard.
Joshua turns off West Temple Street onto the ramp to Silver Lake Boulevard. The sign in the background is for the Western Exterminator Company at 3333 West Temple Street.
