Pretty Woman (1990)

One of the most successful and endearing romantic comedies of all time, this film skyrocketed Julia Roberts to instant fame and put several key LA locations on every tourist map.

Early credits establishing shots show a montage of Hollywood Boulevard - including the iconic Pantages Theatre at 6233 Hollywood Blvd.

We see a quick montage of Vivian (Roberts) getting ready for work at the apartment she shares with Kit (Laura San Giacomo) at 1738 North Las Palmas Avenue in Hollywood. The interior was actually shot here as well.

We see Vivian walking down Las Palmas from her apartment toward Hollywood Boulevard and crossing the street to 6701 Hollywood Blvd. where a detective (Hank Azaria) is investigating the crime scene of a fellow prostitute.

Kit is harassing another streetwalker at Bob Hope's star on the Walk of Fame - located at 6547 Hollywood Blvd. According to her, she and Vivian own the strip from there to "Ella Fitzgerald" (which is located at the Capitol Records Building at 1750 Vine Street) - about a 5-block stretch!

Viv & Kat's hangout - "The Blue Banana" was filmed at 6708 Hollywood Boulevard - part of the Egyptian Theatre. However, the building has undergone renovation since and does not look the same.

A lost Edward (Richard Gere) is seen approaching from Highland Avenue to the west. Vivian offers to give him directions and he picks her up on Hollywood Blvd between Las Palmas & North McCadden Place, driving off back to the west.

After taking over driving, Vivian drops off Edward at the Beverly Wilshire at 9525 Wilshire Boulevard in the heart of Beverly Hills. Unfortunately, the bench where she waits for a bus is now gone, but it was located near the crosswalk directly outside what is now THE Blvd & Lounge at 9500 Wilshire Blvd. The last shot (from a few scenes later) shows the location.

Perhaps the most disappointing thing fans of the movie will find is that interiors of the film's most iconic location were not actually filmed there at all. The Beverly Wilshire's interiors were filmed at the now-demolished (and popular film location in it's own right) Ambassador Hotel. Edward's suite was a set built there as well.

In a great establishing crane shot, Viv crosses Rodeo Drive at Dayton Way, with the Beverly Wilshire in the distance.

Vivian does some window shopping outside 401 N. Rodeo Drive.

The snooty women working at Boulmiche at 479 Rodeo Drive give Vivian a hard time (and she'll later have her revenge). This store is still in business, but in a different location.

The hotel's dining room where Barney (Hector Elizondo) gives Vivian a lesson in dining etiquette was the Embassy Ballroom of the (sadly now gone) Ambassador Hotel.

The upscale restaurant where they have a business meeting is Cicada Restaurant & Lounge at 617 South Olive Avenue in downtown LA.

Edward and Vivian cross Rodeo Drive at Brighton Way, with the Beverly Wilshire in the far distance. He assures her everyone is looking at him, not her.

Vivian is seen turning heads as she walks past 451 Rodeo Drive after her shopping spree.

The polo match where Philip (Jason Alexander) finally meets Vivian was the Los Angeles Equestrian Center at 480 Riverside Drive in Burbank.

Vivian and Edward catch a limo ride right onto the tarmac at Hollywood-Burbank Airport.

The exterior shot of the San Francisco opera house was actually the Carnegie Museum of Natural History at 4400 Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh, PA.

The lobby of the opera house was actually the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles at 900 West Exposition Blvd. What's just out of frame are the giant dinosaur skeletons they are walking towards.

The fountain scene was shot at the Arthur J. Will Memorial Fountain in downtown LA's Grand Park. The wall that Viv is walking on is not actually part of the fountain, but the garden just east of it.

Just south of here is the grassy park where they "cop a squat." The Columbus statue in the background has since been removed. The "V"-shaped tree they are sitting under has since been cut in half (see photo).

The horse riding scene was back at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.

The diner scene (an homage to Edward Hopper's painting "Nighthawks") was filmed at Barb's Quickie Grill, another long-gone location at 7006 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.

The hotel pool scene was filmed at W Los Angeles at 930 Hilgard Avenue in Westwood.

The exteriors of Stuckey's office were filmed at the Bank of America Plaza at 333 South Hope Street in downtown LA.

The final scene were Edward comes to pick up Vivian in the limo was filmed in front of her apartment at 1738 Las Palmas in Hollywood. The First Baptist Church of Hollywood can be seen in the distance.
