Tucker: The Man & His Dream (1988)

This film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, stars Jeff Bridges as automobile idea-man Preston Tucker. The film is set in Michigan, but was shot entirely in northern California.

The windy, hilly road Tucker is seen driving on was the northern part of Ridgecrest Boulevard on Mt. Tamalpais.

The Tucker home was filmed at the historic Armstrong Estate at 645 Charles Van Damme Way in Sonoma, CA.

The gas station was filmed at a former Texaco station at 1200 Rumrill Blvd. in San Pablo, CA.

The Oakland City Hall at 250 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza was used for city hall scenes.

Interiors & exteriors of the Tucker plant were filmed at the former Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant at 1414 Harbour Way South in Richmond, CA.

The lobby of the Paramount Theater at 2025 Broadway in Oakland was used as a showroom for one of the new cars.

The Contra County Courthouse at 725 Court Street in Martinez, CA was where Tucker received the key to the city.

The airport where Tucker meets Howard Hughes was in front of one of the hangars at the former Hamilton Air Force Base near Ignacio, CA. Today, the hangars still stand but have been converted into a modern business park. This same location can be seen in Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom.

There is also a shot of Tucker driving down Hangar Avenue on the west side of the hangars, past an old barracks building. The whole area on the left side of the street has been redeveloped.

The test track was filmed at the Petaluma Speedway at 100 Fairgrounds Drive in Petaluma.

The site of the court case at the end of the film took place at San Francisco City Hall at 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place

Courtroom interiors were shot in the Hotel Oakland at 260 13th Street in Oakland.

The parade of cars at the end of the film went down Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, in front of the Fox Theater at 1807 Telegraph Avenue (renamed "Oaklane" in the film).

If you are a fan of this film, you should definitely make plans to visit the Francis Ford Coppola Winery at 300 Via Archimedes in Geyersville, CA. Besides being a spectacular venue for wine tasting, they have a treasure trove of Coppola movie memorabilia including Francis's own Tucker #37, which was featured in the film. He also owns Tucker #14, which is on display at his other winery Inglenook in Rutherford, CA.
