Batman (1989)

This big-budget adaptation of the popular DC Comics hero was directed by Tim Burton. Locations in England, primarily Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, stood in for Gotham City.

Gotham street scenes including the steps of city hall were shot on a giant backlot set at Pinewood Studios and enhanced in most cases by matte paintings.

Exterior shots of Wayne Manor were the Knebworth House in Hertforshire (seen from the rear). The grounds are open to the public for visits - visit their website for more info.

Interiors of the manor were shot in the historic Hatfield House in Hertfordshire. This is the Long Gallery. Visit their website for visitor information.

The armory where Alex (Robert Wuhl) and Vicki (Kim Basinger) first meet Bruce (Michael Keaton) was Marble Hall at the Hatfield House.

Scenes inside the "Axis Chemicals" plant were filmed inside Acton Lane Power Station, an industrial area that also appeared in Aliens.
