Less Than Zero (1987)
Andrew McCarthy stars as Clay - a college freshman who returns to Los Angeles at the request of his ex-girlfriend (Jami Gertz) to find his former best friend Julian (Robert Downey Jr.) struggling with drug abuse and being threatened by his dealer Rip (James Spader). The film takes place mostly in Los Angeles.
