Tapeheads (1988)

This offbeat comedy centers on Ivan (John Cusack) and Josh (Tim Robbins), best friends working as security guards who stumble upon a new business idea: directing music videos! After making their start with commercials, they soon find themselves working "on spec" for Fuzzball Records and entangled in a blackmail plot with a senatorial candidate (Clu Gulager). The movie takes place in Los Angeles.

Upon their arrival in the big city, Ivan and Josh set up a studio in an old brick warehouse at 660 South Myers Street, just to the east of Los Angeles River.

Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles appears to have been filmed at 5910 West Sunset Boulevard. By the way, it is a real chain of restaurants in Los Angeles, although it is no longer operating at this location.
