The 'Burbs (1989)

The 'Burbs is the story of Ray Peterson (Tom Hanks), a man who just needs some time to relax. Unfortunately, there's always something strange going on in his neighborhood. He and his wacky buddies have a suspicion there's something just not right about the new family that just moved in next door...This classic 80s comedy was filmed entirely on the Universal Studios backlot, in an area known as "Colonial Street." This permanent set is famous for its use in The Munsters, Leave It To Beaver and Matlock and most recently, Desperate Housewives. For this film, it took on the name "Mayfield Place" and the end of the street was shortened to make it appear as a dead-end cul-de-sac.

Luckily since this is known as a "permanent set" the houses have changed very little over the years. The exceptions are the Peterson family house and the Klopeks house, both of which have been replaced with different ones. Here is a map I put together showing where everything is:

If you take the Studio Tour at Universal (included in theme park admission), they will quickly drive you through here (have your cameras ready!) unless something is shooting. There is also the option of the pricey VIP Tour, where you can spend more time at each location.

Universal Studios Hollywood is located at 100 Universal City Plaza, Burbank, CA.
