Science Fair Rules & Guidelines

Categories: All science fair participants will be grouped according to grade level, regardless of topic. Overall winners will be selected, as well as winners at each grade level.

Project Entries: Students may enter only one project. No group projects are allowed. Models, kits, demonstrations, collections, and surveys are NOT acceptable as projects on their own. Topics must be approved by Mr. Fritz before starting.

Safety: Students should avoid projects that involve dangerous chemicals, high voltage, or other health hazards. Experiments involving vertebrate animals (including humans) are discouraged and will require special permission from Mr. Fritz. We follow all applicable ISEF rules.

Required Elements: Each student must keep a data log detailing their work, write a report (abstract) summarizing their project, and create a display for the science fair.

Parental Assistance: The science fair project and especially the experiments should be the work of the student. Parents are encouraged to assist students in finding a topic and getting the materials needed for the experiments.

Technology: Students that want to include a computer or video component to their presentation to the judges must use school equipment (iPads, laptops, etc.)

Judging: All judging is FINAL. All evaluations as to safe conduct, appropriateness of displays, projects, and safety are solely the responsibility of the school officials and judges. Judges will select winners based on the display and an interview of the student. The best projects will be given the opportunity to compete in the Jersey Shore Science Fair at Stockton University.
