What causes Waves

Question? Which ball will make the biggest wave

Hypothesis : I think the bigger Rock l will make a bigger wave because its heavier.

Which Size Rock Will Make a Bigger Wave?

My experiment is on waves. My hypothesis is that the bigger size rock will make a bigger wave because it’s heavier. I choose to do this topic because it’s interesting with the size of rocks and waves.

The first step was to set up a water tank . After that I took different sized rocks and dropped them into the tank. I used a ruler to measure the height of the waves. I tested each rock three times.

For the first set of data I got 7cm 1st and 6 ½cm for the second. I repeated my data at least three times each rock.

I learned from doing this project that bigger rocks make bigger waves because of their weight. My hypothesis was right because I predicted that the bigger sized rock would make a bigger wave.

I can could improve my experiment by collecting even more data.

Conclusion -My experiment is what different size rocks can make a bigger wave. The precautions that I took was to not spill water and to measure the exact height of the wave. My hypothesis did agree with my data because it turned out to be that the larger rock will make the bigger wave. The experiment was accurate because I was careful to measure the right wave.I could improve my experiment collecting more data or trying more different size rocks

Procedure

1 - Find a water tank and different size rocks.

2- Fill the tank halfway with water.

3- Weigh the rocks.

4- Drop in the water tank.

5- Measure the height of each wave .

6- Record the exact height of the wave.

7- Repeat for each rock.
