Basketball Shoes

Which Sneaker Has The Best Grip? ABSTRACT

I wanted to do this experiment because I love shoes, and I love basketball. Sneakers can really make a difference in a player’s game. I have seen players fall or slide on the court. I wanted to find out which of my sneakers have the best grip so I don’t get hurt on the court and have the best gripping sneakers. I believe the more expensive a sneaker, the better the grip. I believe the PG 1 will have the best grip because they are newest model, and I believe technology has gotten better. They are the sneakers I prefer to wear when I play.

I used five different pairs of sneakers that I own: Curry, KD 9, KD 9 Elite, PG1, and Hyperdunks. I used inexpensive sneakers (Curry), mid range sneakers (KD 9, KD 9 Elite, Hyperdunks) and an expensive pair (PG1). I used a measuring tool called a spring scale to measure friction in newtons. Using my kitchen floor, I hooked the spring scale on the shoelace of a shoe and pulled the shoe towards me to see how good the grip is. After each test I wrote the number on a chart. I tested each sneaker three times and found an average.

I completed this for all five sneakers. The cheaper shoes, Curry, had an average of 3.27N. While the most expensive shoe KD 9 Elite had an average of 3.37N. KD9 had an average of 4.77N. PG1 had an average of 5.87N, and Hyperdunks had an average of 4.07N.

My hypothesis was right because I said The PG1s will have the best grip, and they were 2.5N better that the worst shoe, Curry. They are middle of the road in cost ($110) compared to the other shoes tested which proves that money doesn’t buy you grip.
