Bright and Dark Color Temperature

Question: Which different color food dyes collects more heat? Darker or brighter colors?

Materials: Lamp, 2 measuring cups, thermometers, and food dyes

Hypothesis: I think that darker colors will collect more heat. The reason I say this is because during the Summer or any warm day have you ever noticed that darker surfaces seem to be hotter than brighter surfaces? I will test my hypothesis and see if i'm correct.

Procedure

• Fill 2 measuring cups with water

• Put darker and brighter food dyes in them

• Put a heat lamp over them both

• Gather their temperatures every 5 mins for 15 mins

• Turn the temperatures into a chart

Risk and Safety: The lamp may be too hot and can potentially burn someone.
