Best Cleaning Toothpaste

Hypothesis

My topic is about which toothpaste is the best for your teeth. I chose four toothpastes that I thought were the best for other people’s teeth. The toothpaste brands I choose were Tom’s, Crest, Colgate, and Aquafresh. I thought Crest was going to be the best because of all of the commercials. I chose this experiment because I have used all of these toothpastes and I am wondering which one was the best for my teeth.

Problem

To perform this experiment, I used a tile with a circle of black sharpie marker. Then I scrubbed the tile 5 times with each toothpaste brand using separate toothbrushes. Using a scale rating from 1 to 5 (1 being the best), I rated each toothpaste based on how much marker was erased.

Data

From all of my testing from worst to best here are the results Colgate,Aquafresh,Crest, and Tom’s. Tom’s got rid of the most sharpie it was 1.9 inches long and 1.0 in width. Crest was almost just as good as Tom’s but it was 2.4 inches long and 0.12 in width. Aquafresh was 1.5 inches long and 0.9. Lastly Colgate was very bad it only did 0.8 inches long and 0.3 in width. The average rating for all of them is 118.5

Conclusion

I learned that the toothpaste I am using Crest is not the best toothpaste. My hypothesis was wrong because I chose Crest which was only 3rd place. One of the mistakes in my experiment is that I might have made the black circle in the middle a little big. I could improve the experiment by getting a better model for teeth.
