Gummi Bears

buy three different liquids (water, juice, and soda)

weigh and measure the length of the gummy bears before I test them

put the gummy bears in the three different liquids for 24 hours

weigh the gummy bears after the 24 hour mark

Conclusion- Before starting the experiment my hypothesis was that the gummy bears were going to dissolve. It turned out that wasn’t the case, they ended up growing. Some of them even grew an inch. I think the way I conducted my experiment was accurate; I tested my experiment twice. Even though I did more than one time there are many ways on how this experiment can be more accurate. One way to make this experiment for accurate is to measure how much liquid you put in the cup.

Abstract- For my project, I wanted to find out what would happen if gummy bears were left in different liquids. For this experiment I used water, salt water, orange gatorade, juice, and orange Fanta. My hypothesis was that the gummy bears would shrink and change color. I did not think that the color of the gummy bears would make a difference but it did. I choose this project because it sounded interesting and I wanted to see what would happen.

The first thing I did for my experiment was gather all the necessary supplies. I needed a clear cup, gummy bears, and the aforementioned liquids. After gathering the supplies I measured the gummy bears from head to toe, then I put them in the liquids and left them there for 24 hours. After the 24 hour mark I took them out and measured them in inches from head to toe. I repeated these steps twice to make sure the experiment was accurate.

Before I put the gummy bears in the liquids I picked out three different colors of gummy bears: red, orange, and green. All the gummy bears were one inch from the start. After the 24 hour mark the gummy bears were changed as a result of the experiment. I put the red gummy bear in water, the orange in juice, and the green in orange soda. The red one grew 1 inch. It also lost some of its red coloring. The orange gummy bear turned blue, most likely because the juice I used was blue. The green one grew half an inch and turned red and yellow (I used orange Gatorade for the green gummy bear). I repeated the experiment for a second time, the red one grew ½ an inch in the salt water. The orange expanded 1 inch. The green one grew a little over ½ inch. The green gummy bear was in orange soda so maybe that way the green one turned brown on the top and yellow on the bottom.
