Chewing Gum Concentration

Hypothesis

I thought that using nothing will be the best method. I thought this because food specifically gum in your mouth you would think about the flavor, texture and how chewy the gum is. Same scenario with the mints in your mouth. In my science fair project my hypothesis was right.

Procedure

Step one gather my materials. My materials included gum any type, paper, pencil or pen, mints and that is is.I chose to do a multiplication test, but other people can do what math method they want. Then I gathered a group of my friends and timed them on how quick they finished the test. I did it three times for each method. If people want they can do it more times. After that I was finished I converted my data into charts and then went to see if my data was right or not.

Problem

My problem is that I am trying to find out the best way to concentrate on schoolwork, homework and tests. I chose three ways including Orbit chewing gum, nothing and Lifesavers mints.

Conclusion

In my experiment my hypothesis was correct.Gum was the worst out of all of the methods including mints and nothing.Nothing did the best and had the lowest time for people to finish. Mints came in a close second. Don’t forget if you want to try this experiment you can do it yourself it is really easy. In my experiment I used Orbit gum and Lifesaver mints. I quizzed people with a ten question multiplication test sheet i made myself. I think my project was good I would’ve liked to test more times. Overall, I think my project went very well.

Does Gum Help You Concentrate?

Gabe Queen

I wanted to investigate if gum can help you concentrate. My hypothesis to this project that gum doesn’t help you concentrate it distracts you instead of helps you

Firstly, I had to obtain my supplies that I needed for my experiment. I got a piece of paper to put my test on. I collected Gum and mints for my testing.Lastly I collected a poster board. After that, the people that I collected will be testing on the math worksheet I made. I made a multiplication worksheet. They all tested three time with each variable one test with no gum another test with gum and a test with mints. After I tested the people three times. I will use the average I got three times for each test with gum, mint, and normal

Secondly, i had to convert my data that I collected into a chart. After all the three tests for gum, mints and normal .After all my testing was done I had to get the overall average for each test .For the gum testing it took 154.2 seconds for everyone to finish their multiplication test .Next I found a overall average of 147.4 seconds for all my people including me to finish the multiplication test. So far the best method is not taking a test with anything in your mouth, but it isn’t over yet. Lastly, I tested mints and it took 147.9 seconds for everyone to finish the quiz. Only a point five second difference between normal and mints.

In conclusion,my hypothesis was correct that gum would do the worst and distract people on concentrating on test, quizzes, schoolwork or homework. I’ve learned that i don’t need any chewing gum or mints to help me concentrate on schoolwork it is the best to have nothing in your mouth. I would’ve improve my experiment by testing more than three times and having more problems to make the quiz more realistic to tests in seventh grade maybe around twenty questions would have worked.
