Question:

Can playing games effect your blood pressure and heart rate?

Hypothesis:

My hypothesis is that video games will make your heart rate and blood pressure go up.

Procedure:

1. I got all my forms signed.

2. I asked my father to use his blood cuff

3. I picked out three diffrent types of game

puzzle, adventure, stratigy

4.I tested subjects before they played

video games

5. Set a timer 15 min then let the subjects play

6. when the timer went off I tested them to see how

high there blood pressure went up

7. Then I recorded the data on paper

Abstract:

I wanted to do this project because I play video games a lot and I thought it would be cool to figure out if my heart rate and blood pressure goes up. I did this project by having 4 subjects including myself play video games.

4 people were asked to participate in the study including myself. All of my subjects signed the consent forms. each session consisted a subject playing a game for 30 minutes. Before the thirty minutes of testing I took the blood pressure and heart rate of every player. When my test subject played for 15 minutes I would take their heart rate and blood pressure and after they were done playing I would take it again. I tested each player 3 times each time I did a different game each time. I did one adventure game, one puzzle, and one strategy game. Every time I finished taking someone's blood pressure and heart rate I wrote it down into a data table.

The data showed that the average persons blood pressure is 112.375 before and while play video games . The data also showed that the average person's heart rate is 60.16 while playing video games. The average heart rate before and during Minecraft is 80.125. Next the average heart rate before and playing Worms is 83.75. The last game is Candy Crush the average heart rate was 88.625. The average blood pressure for Minecraft is 108.5. Next the average blood pressure for Worms was 117.375. The last is Candy Crush the average blood pressure was 88.6 bpg.

The result in this study proves my hypothesis. The study shows that your heart rate and blood pressure does go up when playing video games. I think the subjects heart rate and blood pressure went up because when you play video games you get excited because you don’t know what is going to happen next . Maybe I could of done more people instead of just four. I also could of done same age and gender to make the test a bit more fair. Accuracy was kept fair by having all the test subjects in the same environment. Also each subject played the same amount of time and each subject got tested for their heart rate and blood pressure. I have realized that testing and researching is very time consuming challenging and very fun.
