Which Reward Will Result in the Quickest Test?

Question?

Which Reward Will Result in the Quickest Test?

Hypothesis:

My hypothesis is that the people that are getting the reward of money will result in the faster test. The reason I think this is because most people like money more so they can buy things for them self.

Procedure:

  • First I need to gather five people, one being a control variable.

  • Then I need to gather the rewards.

  • After that I will test my subjects and find out their how long it took them to finish.

  • Lastly, I will find the average and see who worked faster.

Which Reward Results in a Quicker Test?

Jackson Hesley

In my experiment I wanted to find out if people would work faster if they were being rewarded with food or money. In each test my subjects were given a task to complete and I would see who worked faster. I thought that the people being rewarded with money would work faster than the people being rewarded with food. The reason I thought that people being rewarded with money would work faster is because most people care about money the most. Plus, food would cost money so they would want money to buy the food. Money can also but fun things like going on vacations or buying new things.

First I started by asking five people to be my subjects. One of them being the control variable. All of my subjects signed their papers so they could be tested. I sat my subjects down at a computer to work on an assignment. I didn’t reveal their reward until they were about to start testing. I told them they could do anything or touch their reward until they finished. I used a stopwatch to find out how long it took them to finish. I calculated all of the times to find the averages. All of my subjects did the same test so they all had the same advantage.

What I found out in my test is that people who were rewarded with money worked faster. The food had an average of 5 mins and 28 sec and the money had an average of 4 mins 25 sec. This proves the point that I thought that the people being rewarded with money would work faster. In the test there was a 1 min and 3 sec difference.

What I have concluded is that people mostly care about money during this time. My hypothesis was proven to be correct, because I said that people would work faster when being rewarded with money. Although if I were to do this experiment again I would have changed a few things. I would have tried to get more people as subjects to get a better result. The lack of people could have made the averages not reasonable. Besides the lack of people I feel that this test was accurate. What I have learned from this experiment is that testing.can be very time consuming but also fun.

Conclusion

In conclusion I found that people being rewarded with money worked faster because, the average of the money was 4 mins and 25 secs and the average of the food was 5 mins and 28 secs. My data has proven my hypothesis correct because I said people people being rewarded with money would work faster. I made sure every test would be the same so no one had a better advantage. Also some other things that needed to be the same. But to make it a more accurate test I could have tested the same age group. Another way I could improved my test is if I tested my subjects more than once. What I have learned from working on science fair is that at some times it can be fun but other times very challenging.
