8 Which is the Best Basketball Shot

Noah Pruszinski

Question

Which is the best basketball shot? I wanted to find this out because I was told by my coaches to shoot in front of your head. I wanted to test this. I started out shooting from my chest, so I wanted to test this. I also saw people shooting over their head so I wanted to test that style as well.

Hypothesis

I thought the normal shot would do the best because that is what my coaches always told me. I also thought that a chest shot would not enough angle from each spot. I also believed that the over the head shot would not have enough aim.

Procedure

    1. I will put basketball court circles on the floor on the block, elbow, foul shot, and the top of the key.

    2. People will start at the block

    3. 5 people will take 40 shots

    4. 5 people will then take 40 shots from their chest

    5. 5 people will take 40 shot from above their head.

    6. Repeat steps 2,3,4 at elbow

    7. Repeat steps 2,3,4 at the foul line using foul shot rules

    8. Repeat steps 2,3,4 at the top of the key

Basketball Shots Made

Conclusion

From this experiment, I truly learned that a normal shot is the best shot by far at every location. My hypothesis was correct. The normal shot is the best shot. A chest shot has little angle to enter the basket. Overhead shots are hard to aim. Normal shots averaged 51% made, while chest shot percentage was 28% and overhead shots were 26%. While watching this experiment I noticed that shorter people were better at chest shooting than taller people. I also noticed that overhead shots are easier for taller people than shorter people. I think my experiment could have been better if I had the same amount of air in the ball at all times, but I believe it was a fair experiment. I also repeated the experiment many times which makes it fairer. Clearly, as shown by my data, normal shots are the best shots.

Which is the Perfect Basketball Shot?

Noah Pruszinski

I wanted to know which basketball shot was the most accurate. .. Through my years as a basketball player, I have learned from coaches to shoot from my forehead. Originally, I shot from my chest. Some people shoot overhanded. My hypothesis was that participants would be better at a forehead (or a normal shot) because my coaches have taught me that the normal shot is the best shot.

There were many steps for my experiment. First, I had participants take shots from the box. They took forty normal shots, forty chest shots and forty overhead shots. These shots were split into two twenty shot rounds. Then, they took shots from the elbow. They did the same system of shots. Next, they took shots from the foul line. Once again, they did the same system of shooting. Lastly, they took shots from the top of the key, and once again, they did the same system of shooting.

I found that a normal shot is the best form by far. Normal shots on the block went 84%, while chest shots went 54% and the overhead at 61%. Next, they took wing shots from the elbow. They made 40% of their shots from the wing, while making 21% of their chest shots and 20% of their overhead shots. Then, normal foul shots were 50%, while chest foul shot were 23% and overhead foul shots were 16%. Lastly, they took three-point shots from the top of the key. They made 31% of their shots from the top of the key, while making 15% of their chest shots and 9% of their overhead shots. Clearly, normal shots dominated the shots that were made.

From this experiment, I truly learned that a normal shot is the best shot by far at every location. My hypothesis was correct. The normal shot is the best shot. A chest shot has little angle to enter the basket, and overhead shots are hard to aim. Normal shots averaged 51% made, while chest shot percentage was 28% and overhead shots were 26%. While watching this experiment I noticed that shorter people were better at chest shooting than taller people, while it was the opposite for overhead shooting. I think my experiment could have been better if I had the same amount of air in the ball at all times, but I believe it was a fair experiment. Clearly, as shown by my data, normal shots are the best shots.
