Elephant Tooth Paste Cornell

Hypothesis- I think its going to get a big reaction. In this experiment, yeast serves as a catalyst which makes the peroxide molecule release the oxygen atom faster. A chemical reaction is taking place as by a gas being released and a temperature change.

PROCEDURE

1. Add 20 ml hydrogen peroxide to a cup.

2. Pour a teaspoon of liquid soap into the cup with the peroxide.

3. Add 8-10 drops of food coloring.

4. In another glass, put equal parts warm water and yeast.

5. Mix the water and yeast together.

6. Pour the yeast mixture into the cup with the peroxide.

7. Wait and watch for the reaction to happen.

Problem

In this Elephant toothpaste experiment I’m trying to find out which combination of materials will cause the highest reaction. I did this experiment because the title was Elephant toothpaste and it sound cool.

Conclusion

My Hypothesis was right. I think it was a success. I tried doing different things and i found more yeast bigger reaction.

Abstract

Last year I did “Blow It Up” in my science fair. It was seeing the circumference of the balloon. I had so much fun doing it. So this year I wanted to do something similar. So the teacher gave me the idea of making Elephant ToothPaste. I like to see things grow bigger. I looked it up the experiment and looked cool and I started working on it.

I told the teacher can I stay after school to work on it. First I got a tube, second I pour a teaspoon full of soap into the tube, third pour hydrogen peroxide into the tube with the soap, after I put in 8-10 drops of food coloring into the tube, next in the other glass put in warm water and yeast the catalyst, last mix the warm water and yeast, finally pour the mix warm water and yeast into the tube, than wait. Than I watched the foam rise up to give my measurement.
