1 What is the Average Steps a Student takes at School?

Emily Little

Procedure

    1. I picked two students boy and girl from each grade from 6-8 to help in my project

    2. I gave them all a pedometer to use for the day from when the bell rings in the morning till the bell rings at the end of the day

    3. I had the students do it for a week informing them all not to wear the pedometers during gym

    4. After all the testing as over I added up my total averages

Hypothesis

My hypothesis is that the average amount of steps is going to be 5,000. I think it would be 5,000 because to walk for 8 hours up and down the hallways would add up to a great amount of steps at the end of the school day. Besides some of the students walk faster than others meaning they can have more steps than others.

Problem

For my science fair project I decided to find out “What is The Average Steps a Student Takes at School”? The reason why I picked this project is because I’ve always wondered how many steps we take during school and that is why I choose to do this project.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my hypothesis was pretty much correct. My guess was 3,000 steps as a total and the winner was 3,815 leaving my hypothesis pretty spot on. If I were to improve on this project I would ask more subjects to help me and try testing more grades instead of just middle schoolers, but overall weather I asked more subjects or added more grades in, I think that my project was very accurate.
