Which Paper Towel Brand is the Most absorbent?

This year I conducted my experiment to see which paper towel brand was the most absorbent. One night I accidently spilt my drink, while doing my homework. During the clean up I wondered if there was a difference between paper towel brands and their absorbance. So, I chose three different brands to put them to the test. My hypothesis is that Bounty will do the best out of the other two brands because Bounty is known for absorbing the best according to their advertisements.

With my testing I remembered that every paper towel needed to be the same length and width. So, each paper towel was 1 foot long and the width was 11.5 inches. The Paper towel was soaked in 100 millimeters of the liquid for 15 seconds. For each test I choose a new paper towel there were three tests in total for each liquid. Then I calculated the average of liquid left and how much was absorbed. The liquids that I used was water, cranberry juice, and coca cola. I poured each liquid in a ml tube and poured until it reached the 100 mark. After that I filled a bowl with that liquid and moved the paper towel around the bowl covering every corner until it was dripping wet. Then I poured the remainder off liquid back in the tube to see how much was left.

Each brand had an average of how much liquid was left and a percentage of how much liquid was absorbed.

Bounty was the best, but Scott came in a close second. Bounty did the best in water coming in with an average of 62.2 ML left which means bounty absorbed 37.8% of water. Bounty did much more worse with the soda tests. Bounty´s average for soda was 72.3 ML left over. Bounty absorbed 27.3% of coca cola. Next, Scott’s average for water was 63.9,and absorbed 36.1%.Also Scott’s average for Cranberry Juice is 68.3, and absorbed 31.7%. Lastly, Scott’s average for soda is 73.9, and absorbed 26.1. Finally our last brand Great Value averages were 65.9,71.3, and 74.6. As you can see Great Value has the worst averages out of the three. Great Value absorbed 34.1,28.7,and 25.4 the worst results out of all three brands.

Bounty is the best paper towel brand. Scott coming in with a close second. Lastly, Great value comes in last. These results don’t surprise me. Bounty always says they are the best paper towel and this proves it. My hypothesis was correct I thought that Bounty would do best because there are the most well known paper towel brand to me and advertised to be the best. The downside is Bounty is the most expensive brand out all the three. I wouldn’t change anything about this experiment and I think everything went well. Bounty is declared victor for the most absorbent paper towel brand.
