Melting Ice

What makes ice melt faster

Which Melts Ice Faster?

For my science fair project I decided to test how long it takes to melt ice using different materials

My hypothesis I choose was that the salt would melt the ice the fastest because the snow plowers use salt to melt ice on the roadways. I choose this topic because I thought it was an interesting science project because I like to test and record results.

What you need is three glasses of ice some salt, sugar and sand also you need a stopwatch and a data chart to record data on.

I did my experiment by making up three cups of ice and some salt sugar and sand put the salt, sugar and sand in three different cups and record each of their times.when getting their times record them two more times to get an average for the melting of the ice.The ice will get watery after a while in the materials but don’t stop the timer until the ice is COMPLETELY melted.

When you stop the timer that will be the exact time that it takes for the ice to melt with the

materials on each set of ice.

I tested the experiment 3 times for each cup of ice and got the averages

For the melting times for the ice. They include averages of the ice without materials

ice with salt, the ice with sugar and the ice in .The averages for the times include in order of introduction plain ice 13 mins 54 sec. Ice w/salt 11 mins 58 sec. ice in sand 12 min 13 sec. Ice w/sugar 11 mins 11 sec.

My conclusion for my project would be that the fastest melting agent would be the sugar ice that had the time of 11 mins and 11 sec. the second place agent would be the ice in sand which had a melting time of 12 mins 13 sec The ice that came in third would be the ice w/salt that took 11 minutes and 58 seconds also the controlled variables time would be the ice without any melting agents had a melting time of 13 mins and 22 seconds. The conclusion of the project is that the averages collected of the materials would be that the ice with the sugar ice water melts the quickest of the rest of the tests. I could improve my experiment by calculating the rooms temperatures into each test to figure in the extra variable for the time it takes the ice to melt.My hypothesis was incorrect because I said that the salt would melt the ice the fastest but in reality it was the sugar ice that melted it the fastest.
