How Far Can a CD Hovercraft Go by Pushing it Real Good!?

Question: How far can a CD Hovercraft go by pushing it

Hypothesis: I think it will go to 1.5-2.5 FT long.

Procedure:1. Gather materials listed: CD, thumbtack, glue gun, balloon, and a bottle cap.

At the end I did get the results I was hoping for. In my hypothesis I said that my hovercraft can go a distance of 1.5-2.5ft. My maximum distance was 3.5ft., I was amazed! Some of the hovercrafts didn't to far, my shortest distance was 5in. Building the CD hovercrafts was very fun for me to do! All in all, the project was a success with my data and constructing.

2. Poke holes in the middle of the soda lid with the thumbtack.

3. Take the glue gun (make sure you have a old CD) and then put some glue around the center of the CD.

4. Put the bottle cap in the glue and hold it down for 10 seconds then let it dry.

5. Blow up the balloon and put it on the bottle cap and give it a push.

6. Collect data and repeat. Conclusion

How far can a CD hovercraft go with a push? This would be explained by using certain materials and techniques. I think it’ll go 1.5ft-2.5 ft when I give it a hard push.

First make your holes in the bottle cap. Then take the glue gun and put a line of glue around the center of the cd. Then take the bottle cap and hold it down in the ring of glue. After it dries blow up the balloon and pinch the end while attaching it on the bottle cap, then give it a push and measure how far it went.

I have collected my data and it was both good and accurate. I got information I didn't expect I would get. Since I gave it a push I got over 1ft on most of the first attempts. On the second attempts it was only a little better for some of the hovercrafts.

I learned that CD hovercrafts aren't all that great, but I also learned that they can go far distances if you want them to. My variances between the different hovercrafts were the width of the holes and how many holes there were. My hypothesis was correct! I said "oh it'll go 1.5-2.5ft, surprisingly my furthest distance was 3.5ft!"
