A hike of less than a half mile will bring you up to the base of this 75' waterfall on the southern slopes of Mt Princeton in the Chalk Creek Canyon southwest of Buena Vista, CO. Although the creek appears to flow year-round, spring is the best time to visit it. The spelling shown here is correct and is consistent with the signs at the trailhead (not "Veil"). The waterfall is named after a woman of the early 1900's who was an avid mountain climber who had climbed all 54 of the Fourteeners. This waterfall took her name after her death during a winter climbing attempt of Longs Peak. While descending the north side of the peak, in January 1925, she slipped and fell approximately 150 feet. She ended up freezing to death before being rescued and Herbert Sortland, one of a group of people sent out to find the missing climbers, also went missing and was later found dead.
