Directions

Take CA-70 and turn right onto Cherokee Road, ~6.7 miles northeast of the intersection with CA-149 (north of Oroville). Follow Cherokee Rd for ~5.8 miles to the trailhead parking lot on the right (northwest), shortly after climbing the hill west of Oregon City. Heading northwest from the parking lot, the brink of Phantom Falls could be reached after ~1.4 miles if you could walk in a perfectly straight line. If you don't think you can walk in a perfect straight line I would recommend following the north side of the wash directly west of the parking lot for a short distance (~0.3 miles) before turning to the northwest. When you begin to approach a small stand of trees upstream of Ravine Fall (~1.0 mile from the parking lot) turn a little bit more north and skirt around the wash above Ravine Twin Falls (~1.1 miles from the parking lot) before continuing northwest and then west-northwest until you come to the edge of Coal Canyon (~1.5 miles from the parking lot). From here you'll have a nice view of the canyon and waterfall to the northeast. To get a closer look simply follow the canyon rim towards the falls.
