Ratings

We've developed six categories in an attempt to compare hikes. Below, these categories are defined. Each category is on a 1 to 10 scale, with 10 being the best. For example, a "Walking Scenery" score of 9 is representative of a very scenic walk and a "Crowd" score of 9 is representative of a very low crowded hike (i.e., the less people, the better).

Walking Scenery - the scenery experienced along the hike

Destination Scenery - the scenery experienced at the destination(s)

Flowers - the degree of wildflower display we experienced or expect during the blooming season

Crowd - the concentration of people encountered or expect during the summer on the trail and/or destination

Our Rating - our personal overall feeling of the hike

Total Rating - weighted average of the previous 5 categories

The weights for Total Rating are in the following order:

Our Rating > Destination Scenery > Walking Scenery > Flowers > Crowd
