Location

This is a thin and beautiful ~55' waterfall immediately downstream of Middle Loves Falls. The PCT footbridge crosses the North Yuba River immediately upstream of Loves Falls, which is just upstream of Middle Loves Falls. The PCT also crosses over this creek a little ways upstream of the falls. In my opinion, this is a more interesting waterfall than all three of the Loves Falls (at least while it's flowing), although it does require some off-trail scrambling and negotiating of steep cliff-sides. When I revisited this waterfall in April, 2012, I had forgotten how tall it is. It looks a lot bigger in person than in my pictures. The fourth picture I uploaded is an attempt to capture the scale better with the tree to the left of the waterfall. To the best of my knowledge no one else online describes this waterfall (at the time of posting).

Directions

From Sierra City, take CA-49 northeast for ~1.7 miles to the a long dirt pullout area off the eastern side of the highway. Park here and head directly east through the woods to intersect with the Pacific Crest Trail (steep downhill just before intersecting the trail). From here I made my way toward the river to the east (not recommended, very steep and dangerous) and a little north until I came to a steep ridge that protruded east toward the river. From here I had a clear view of the waterfall across the river from me. From the USGS topo maps it looks like the PCT crosses over this spring upstream from the waterfall.
