Meiss Falls

Alpine County, California

Description

Meiss Falls is an interesting waterfall located just off of the Pacific Crest Trail between Carson Pass and Meiss Meadow that slides down in at least three steps. If it weren't for the almost perpetual patch of snow at its base, you might mistaken the surroundings for the canyon lands of Utah. Its creek is a tributary to the Upper Truckee River and is flanked by a prominence to the north at the main section of the waterfall. Despite its proximity to the PCT, I have not been able to find any other pictures or any mention of it online.

Directions

This waterfall is located just off the Pacific Crest Trail above Meiss Meadow (Showers Lake hike description to come). From Carson Pass, follow the PCT to the northwest up to a saddle between Red Lake Peak and Little Round Top. Continue along the PCT over a seasonal stream at around 8,700' to where the trail begins its final descent to Meiss Meadow. Here (~8,640'), leave the trail to the east and follow the tributary to the Upper Truckee River to the base of the waterfall.
