USGS Topo: Chalk Mountain

Directions

To get to this waterfall, turn right onto a dirt road off of CA-299 ~17.9 miles SW of the intersection with CA-89. Almost immediately, turn right again and after ~0.2 miles stay left. After another ~0.2 miles turn right onto a less used dirt road and follow it to its end (as long as no trees bar the way). From here, all that is left is to off-trail hike down the slope towards the creek to the North. The slope is pretty steep, therefore travel at your own risk. Once near the creek you should be able to hear this small waterfall. When I was at the waterfall there was a pretty large pile of wood just below the falls that allowed me to get directly in front of it. Note: The USGS Topo Map of this area has this waterfall too far downstream (should be in the Chalk Mountain quad instead of the Montgomery Creek quad).

Video

This is a decent waterfall located along Hatchet Creek northeast of Montgomery Creek, CA and upstream of Lion Slide Falls. It is not the easiest waterfall to get to and involves a steep off-trail descent. Therefore, it is not recommended for timid or inexperienced hikers.
