"No Steak" & Onion Pie
Mark made this Delicious Pie on Sunday and served it with Vegan Colcannon , Cumin, and Lemon Carrots and Garlic Green Beans - it was so good and I promised I would ask for his recipe.
This recipe can be made with Textured Soya or Green Lentils the choice is yours although for steak-style pie the Soya chunks work best
Ingredients
100g Textured Soya Protein Chunks We love these ones from Holland and Barrett
Note you have to soak them in hot water for 10 minutes and squeeze them out before you use them - they will triple in weight
1 Onion peeled and diced
100g Chestnut mushrooms - quartered
2 cloves of Garlic
2 tsp Mixed herbs
3 dessert spoons Gravy Granules - regular Bisto or Lidl's own are Vegan
1 tsp Marmite ( optional ) adds an extra depth of flavor
1 pack of Puff Pastry - Just Rol and Lidl's are Vegan
The How to Bit
Preheat oven to 200 C
Prep the soya and set aside, heat a pan and add the onion and garlic with a bit of oil
Add the Mushrooms, mixed herbs, and a bit of water
Add the Soya Pieces and the gravy Granuals, and water until you are happy with the thickness of your gravy
Stir in some Marmite to tasty - cook for 10 minutes
Place in Pie Dish and top with a puff pastry lid that fits your dish
Pop in a pre-heated oven at 200 C and cook for 15 mins until golden
Serve with Vegan Colcannon or mashed potatoes or Chips if you prefer
You can also cook your lid separately from the pie filling if you like it extra crispy !! Just cut to size and place on greaseproof paper and cook for the same amount of time - Mark does this if he uses Lentils and they tend to go too mushy of over cooked.
