Bridestowe 1XI vs Kingsbridge 1XI - 23/05/15

Post date: May 24, 2015 10:46:24 AM

Bridestowe moved to the top of C(West) thanks to a comfortable 9-wicket win at home to Kingsbridge. The hosts won the toss, and elected to bowl first on a warm, but overcast day. The ball moved around early on and Tom Fogerty soon had his first wicket, trapping Ellis lbw for 2. He then bowled Bridgens and brother Dan had Clark caught in the gully, both for 0, to leave the Kings men 14-3. Captain Westlake was looking solid at the other end and played some aggressive strokes to spinner Khan. With the score at 49, Khan got a breakthrough, as Pike was well caught by Dan at short cover. After some tight overs by Sizmur and Khan, Westlake (37) lost patience and was bowled trying a slog sweep off Khan. Rosewarne (12) also looked to attack, and was dropped twice behind the wicket from Sizmur, before Boother clung on to a skier (absolute stunner) at long on. Sizmur (3-22) then removed Oliver and Peach lbw before Khan (4-19) bowled Walker and Dob to leave Kinsgbridge all out for 76 after 27 overs.

Again going straight back out before tea, Bridestowe lost a wicket in the first over of their chase, as Peach removed Tom Fogerty lbw. After that early wobble, the win was never really in doubt, thanks to calm innings from Down (14*) and Sizmur (57*). Sizmur struck 7 fours and a six in an innings which quickly took the game away from the visitors. We had a short break for tea, before taking 11 balls to win the game. The target was reached in under 16 overs, helped by a lightning fast outfield. It was a shame that Kingsbridge were missing so many players, and our thoughts go out to De Silva, who couldn't play through very unfortunate circumstances. After a game which lasted only a few hours in total, the boys decided to have a net, with Boother impressing with some fluent stroke-play, and birthday boy Naz smashing a few into the cow field.

The win puts BCC 2 points ahead of Whitchurch at the top of C(West), meaning there is plenty to play for in the next few weeks. Next up is a trip to the English Riviera to face Stoke Gabriel, with BCC looking to come back with all 20 points.
