Bridestowe 2nd XI v Dartington and Totnes 3 Saturday 2nd June 2012

Post date: Jun 3, 2012 7:18:49 PM

With the club meteorologist predicting rain by late afternoon, the 2nds did not just have Dartington and Totnes III to beat.

Skipper Mark Butler made a good start by winning the toss and putting the opposition in to bat, and he received good support from fellow opening bowler Darren Hunt, who took two early wickets. The real breakthrough came from Callum Mallett however, whose 3 for 10 spell put an end to the visitor’s hopes of a large score. Dartington’s nine men were finished off by Andy Yates, who took just three balls to end the innings.

With just 64 to get, it looked like an easy win for the 2nds, but instead the scorers were kept busy by a steady fall of wickets. Then the experienced duo of Kevin Yates and Smokey Tremain reached the middle. Smokey’s stout defence was matched by Kev’s quickly taken singles, and they gradually approached the target. Charlie’s rain clouds were beginning to loom, so Kev (23 not out) launched a final assault with two fours and a six which also managed to reduce the value of an opposition car parked at Cow Corner!

This was an 18 point win for the seconds – a really good achievement seeing that no-one expected to be playing beyond tea.
