Bridestowe CC 1XI vs. Cornwood CC 2XI - 12/05/18

Post date: May 14, 2018 9:23:29 AM

Bridestowe 1XI made it two wins in as many games as they beat Cornwood 2XI at home. Newly appointed skipper Chris Lavis won the toss and asked Cornwood to bat first.

The hosts got off to a dream start with Tom Boother (5-25) hooping one through Collins' defence in the second over. Lavis (1-10) quickly followed it up with one himself, bowling Bell. The wickets kept tumbling as Boother wasted no time in picking up the first BCC fifer of the season - one lbw, one sharp catch at slip, and two more bowled. At 30-6 it looked as though the game would be done and dusted by tea, but Piddock (18) and Knight (30) rallied and managed to compile the only 50 stand of the game. Ryan Dennis (3-29) eventually removed the latter but Bees (14) kept the runs coming. Alex Jopling (1-22) and Dennis wrapped up the tail to leave Cornwood 107ao in 37.2 overs.

After a somewhat hectic tea, BCC set about the chase. Openers James Ewen (4) and Dennis (5) both fell early to Baker (2-42). As he had the week before, Brandon Horn (22) turned the game BCC's way with some monstrous hitting. He cleared the road-end hedge twice, with the second landing on the road and bouncing well into the next field. Bees (1-14) put an end to the fun with a big in-swinger that got through Dino's defences, but 43-3 still represented a decent start. Phil Hatton (11), Richard Drake (9) and Mark Fogerty (17 no) put BCC in firm control. The change bowlers didn't look as dangerous and the couple of other wickets lost in the chase were from short, wide balls hit straight to fielders. Fogerty and Pat Ewen (9 no) guided the hosts home with 5 wickets and 16 overs remaining.

Next week the 1XI face a tough trip to neighbours Lewdown, and will have to call on some backup with many of the team on rugby tour.
