The one where we saw the return of the Mighty Tim Shaw, Brandon missed his

double hundred and my OCD got tested to the limit.

05th August 2017

So having played the top three teams in the league over the past few weeks we move

back into run and wicket fest till the end of the season. To be fair the top few teams

we have had some success against and equally we have had a few disappointments.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed that the Mighty Tim Shaw did avoid the challenging mid season

games….end of season award council please note!

So where are we off to? ….bloody Torquay on the first real holiday season day of the

year! ….noooooooo ! The A30 was shocking for those that met at the Kwicky Mart at

12.30 and it looked like we were going to be shockingly late as a collective. I have no

idea whether we were late or not as a domestic problem meant the writer was even

later than late. Hey ho.

On what looked a proper sticky dog in the middle of an lightly mowed cabbage patch LJ

did the right thing and won the toss. Ideal….Oh….we are batting!?! Oh well best we dig

in and bat well then. Neilo joined the Mighty Tim Shaw politely offered his stumps up

for nothing swiftly followed by Ian Juts who nicked off to the keeper. Hmmmm

starting to look a bit sick lads 24 for 2 !. By now Batstone had finally arrived from his

trepidations on the A30. (176 caravans passed en route!)

Brandon Horn, armed with a fresh tattoo on his arse, swaggered to the crease. Next

stop 124 for 3 in about the 10 th over or something. The Mighty Tim Shaw on 53 bowled

and Chelston and Kingskerswell starting to flag a bit. To be honest 9 men in the field

leaves a lot of gaps. Brandon continued to slap just about every ball to the fence. The

match ball ended up on the railway line. The replacement disappeared somewhere down

toward Torquay seafront. Neither were seen again.

Brando was definitely eying up a 200 with the best part of 30 overs still to be bowled

when he slapped one to midwicket boundary for an excellent 127…..at this stage

Batstone was on 6 and the score had moved on by 52 runs to 206 with 20 over still to

bowl….was this going to be some sort of monster club record?

Charlie ‘my bat is too heavy’ Ewen decided to try out the Island bat that had been

rejected by innumerable people in the club as poor instead of his usual 3.5lb

behomouth. Came to the crease. He got going only after accepting that all previous

owners of the Island bat were right and it was cr*p. A few 4s and Charlo was on his way

for a quick 17. Wickets then started to fall rather too quickly and suddenly we were

245 for 8. Then it was 265 for 9 and we still had a shed load of overs to bat.

LJ (45*) and Joppers (7*) steadied the ship then went on the offensive….the 300 was

brought up in the final over with a loud cheer from the boundary….final score 306 for

9.

We posted em….now you go get em!

C&K were never really gonna be in the game. Kieran Lee (5.0.0.25) opened the bowling

with the Mighty Tim Shaw and CK openers actually had a dart. Anything short was

pulled with ease.

The Mighty Tim Shaw (5.0.1.14) was the first to strike, after two or three glorious

edges went straight through Teflon and Steve B, Subbuteo Cricket yet again, getting

their opener caught off a top edge. A stunning take by K Lee.

LJ ‘its my ball I m gonna bowl myself’ (6.0.2.21) and Joppers (7.1.2.17) came into the

attack and mopped up the next 4 wickets….all caught! Contrary to Briddy tradition, we

do drop a few tbh!

Next into the fray Marco Butler (2.1-1-3-2) and Dale ‘bomber’ Harris (1.0.1.3). who

wrapped the innings up. C&K all out for 77.

When wandering off a thought occurred…….Hold on!!!!!!!!! Were they all caught out?

There was that stunning catch by K. there was that Juggle by Bomber and that last guy

was out caught as well.

ARGGGGGGH no there was one bloke bowled by Marco. Well when you say bowled the

guy watched the ball gently nudge the stump and the bail fell off – Marco has lost a bit

of pace nowadays :0)……. And that is when my OCD kicked in!!

Next week somebody else somewhere else….maybe at home maybe not.
