Shaldon Optimists CC 3XI vs. Bridestowe CC 2XI - 2nd July 2017

Post date: Jul 5, 2017 9:40:02 AM

Bridestowe 2XI joined the first team in moving up to third in the table at the halfway stage in the season. With two promotion places in D West 2, Briddy twos are well and truly in the hunt after four straight wins.

The twos all eventually reached Shaldon and found themselves bowling first on a flat pitch. Lee (1-24) and Corey (2-49) opened the bowling and kept scoring to a minimum early on. After both openers picked up wickets, left arm tweaker Dave Jopling (0-50) and Bomber (1-46) were introduced - but they found it more difficult to contain the batsmen. Cassidy (42), Tuffnell (61*) and Fisher (38*) all gave the visiting bowlers some tap, smashing a number of sixes. A tight nine over spell from Mark Butler (1-32) kept a lid on things as Shaldon finished on 205-5 from their 45 overs.

BCC went off in hot pursuit of the target, with Neilo (47) carting the home bowlers to all parts, with 'chipper' Batstone (72*) holding up the other end. Neilo was bowled by Larkman (2-42) with the score on 75 but this did little to help as Buzz (39) took on the aggressor's role, smashing a number of sixes. Buzz was caught with the game all-but won with the score on 165-2 with plenty of overs left. It was left to Ian Jutson (28*) and the unflappable chipper to steer the ship home, with the twos winning by 8-wickets with more than 7 overs left.
