Bovey Tracey CC 4XI vs. Bridestowe CC 2XI - 2nd July 2016

Post date: Jul 3, 2016 6:31:33 PM

Lee Jutson returned to captain the super 2's for the first time this season and carried on where he'd left off by losing the toss on a damp wicket. With showers forcast, the bovey skipper decided to put the 2's in to bat first. Ian Jutson was promoted to open with '2 ball' Brimacombe. Both batsman got off to a slow start, with the light rain making scoring difficult. Neilo was quite happy remaining in the pavilion, in what he saw as unplayable conditions. Eventually everyone else came around to his way of thinking and a couple of rain delays reduced the game to 42 overs per side. After the rain subsided, Brimacombe was soon back to the shelter of the pavilion, bowled by England for 9. A rather disgruntled Neilo joined jutson in the middle, but he didn't have to stay long as he was caught for 1. At 24-2, Shaw joined Jutson and immediately got the scoreboard ticking by putting the bad balls away. He and Jutson soon passed the 50 mark, but a mix up left Jutson at the wrong end and he was run out for a nice 28. After a huge partnership the previous week, Lee joined Shaw hoping to reproduce his heroics. However, Shaw was soon trudging back after being bowled by an inside edge on to his pads on to stumps for a brisk 26. Adam Holliday joined Lee and was looking comfortable until he chipped one to mid off for 5. Corey Holliday joined Lee and the pair started to rebuild the innings by hitting a few boundaries. Lee had still not learnt from last week and managed to rob Corey of a run by running one short again. Lee then was then out for 13 after looking good at the crease. Lee Jutson joined Corey, and after getting dropped first ball, decided to set about the Tracey bowlers, planting his front foot and slapping a few sixes. Corey fell to Pitman for a good 18 and Dave Jopling joined Jutson looking to get the 2s to a competitive score. The pair put on 59 for the 8th wicket, with jutson bringing up his maiden BCC 50 in 34 balls, and eventually falling in the last over, leaving Jopling 12 not out .

With tea already taken during the rain break, Bovey came straight out to bat, with Bridestowe feeling confident of defending the 190 runs required. Bovey had other ideas, as Lee Jutson's first ball was dispatched for 4 by the confident Scott. With 22 on the scoreboard, Shaw sent down a tempter to Scott and he duly abliged by edging to Ian Jutson behind the stumps for a quick fire 18. Jopling replaced the out of sorts Jutson, but he also struggled, drifting down leg sid. Pritchard replaced Shaw, and picked up the wicket of England, caught by Brimacombe with a slow motion slip catch for 25 . Bovey were still ahead of the run rate and too many lose deliveries were being put away. The luck was also on the side of the hosts, as many mistimed shots fell just short of the Bridestowe fielders. Pritchard picked up another wicket, this time Neilo took the catch to remove Innocent for 25. Pritchard ended with excellent figures of 7-0-34-2. Griffiths could not find his line or length so Shaw came back on to try and get a break through. He did just that by picking up a caught and bowled to remove Harvey for 25. He then put himself on another hatrick by removing Baker's leg stump first ball. Unfortunately for BCC, that was his final over and he ended with figures of 9-4-14-3. Jutson returned, but after his marathon with the bat he was still struggling with his length. He picked up the wicket of Ansley, bowling him for 5, but by this time the game was out of the reach of the visitors. Corey bowled a neat over at the end, but Bridestowe ended up on the wrong end of a 4 wicket defeat.

With Hatherleigh to play next week, the bowling will need to improve and with two dropped catches, these things could cost the 2s dearly on their hunt for promotion.
