T20 Update - 24/06/14

Since the last T20 update, the 2s have played Launceston and Lydford and the 1s have played Lewdown.

The 2s won their game away against Launceston, who are top of the TEL Division 2. The hosts were restricted to 98 batting first on a hard track, Rhys Holland was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets. In reply, Matt Turner (45no), Pat Ewen (15) and James Ewen (27) got the bulk of the runs as we got home by 3 wickets with plenty of overs left. Despite the low total we hit a number of 6's including the biggest the opposition captain had ever seen at the ground by Pat Ewen!

The 1s got a vital win against fellow title contenders Lewdown at the Millaton Ground. We won the toss and batted and got off to a flying start thanks to Barry Down (53) and Tom Fog (52) who smashed the bowling to all part and put on almost 100 before Tom was out to Nick Smith. When Tom was out, Scotty and Barry went through a rebuilding period before both were out in quick succession. Marco Marais picked up a coupled of wickets but was handled well by Jack Hatton (15) who pulled him to the leg side boundary on a few occasions. Some late boundaries and hard running from Jake Barber, Alex Jopling and James Ewen, along with some fairly sloppy fielding from Lewdown, got us up to an imposing 183-5 from our 20 overs. The Lewdown reply got off to a shaky start as Jack bowled Friend for a duck. That brought danger man Marco to the crease. After a glorious 4 off the back foot through the offside from the bowling of Robbie Sandercock, Marco clipped one straight to Jacko at midwicket who took a great catch. We could have been forgiven for thinking that at 4-2, with Marco back in the hutch, and a huge target to chase, that the game was over; but Jack Williams (45) and Tom Pengelly (25) had other ideas. Jack in particular played some fantastic shots, including hitting Tom's first over for 22. Nerves began to set in as the pair began to accelerate and found the boundary regularly. Luckily for us, just as the game was swinging towards Lewdown, spinner Barry (5-38-4) turned one past Pengelley's bat and Pat completed a sharp stumping. New man Pearce continued in the same vein though and hit a 6 then a 4 before he also fell to a sharp stumping by Pat. Barry then took his 3rd when he got the big wicket of Williams after a huge lbw appeal. Lewdown weren't done yet though as Matt Witcher (29) bludgeoned Barry for consecutive 6's followed by a 4 meaning the visitors needed 50 from the last 4 overs. Barry got his revenge as Wither top edged a sweep and was well caught at deep backward square by Alex to all but seal the game. Only singles and 2s came from the last few overs as we sealed a great 26 run win, with Lewdown finishing on 157-8. The 1s are still unbeaten in the TEL Division 1, and are 3 points clear with 5 games to play. With some tough games coming up the there is still a long way to go to seal our first ever Division 1 title.

The 2s lost on the road to Lydford. We could only manage 58 all out but did manage to take 6 opposition wickets before the total was chased down.
