Summary of AGM – 9th October 2014

Post date: Oct 14, 2014 3:04:57 PM

The annual AGM took place on Thursday the 9th October and was well attended as usual. Here is a summary of the main points covered –

Season Report

The meeting started with a review of a very successful season in which the 1st XI won the league! The Chairman congratulated and thanked everyone who had been involved in the club this season.

The treasurer also gave a positive report and thanked the generous sponsors who had supported us this year.

The captain also expressed congratulations to all for a great season also highlighting the importance of the spectators and supporters.

Dean Taylor reported that the evening league was also a great success providing excellent links between Bridestowe and Okehampton cricket clubs. It was agreed that next year more games should be played at Bridestowe. Dean highlighted the importance of paying the £10 signing on fee to play 20/20 in order to support the hub at Okehampton.

Playing arrangements 2015

It was agreed that we should try and get a 2nd XI out next season. Though we would need a minimum of 30 players on the books for this to be a success.

Charlie agreed to check with players regarding their availability – regular, occasionally etc and make final decision on ability to run a second team.

It would appear that there will be regionalisation in the Devon League this year. It was felt this wouldn't affect the first team matches and travel too much, but may mean that the second teams matches would be more local.

Final decision due in November and then a deadline for applications will be given.

Coaching 2014

Louise Sullivan and Scotty were thanked for helping and organising coaching.

Louise noted that it was very well attended by younger children but there was a lack of 9-13 year olds, possibility due to youth club also being held on a Friday evening.

There was a suggestion of finding an indoor venue to use if the weather is bad so that the sessions don’t have to be cancelled. Louise to research possibility of indoor venue or discuss alternative outdoor activities for when weather bad.

Alex is likely to take over the coaching next season as he will have completed a Level 2 coaching course, which the club will help fund. The other young players at the club will also be happy to help again.

It was suggested that coaching sessions should be split so the older kids get a chance to focus on cricket skills and the younger kids can do ball skills relevant to them etc. This will require a second cricket net and for the practice area to be re-concreted but it was felt this will be worth the investment to support the coaching and the older kids. It is hoped the club may be able to get some funding from local sources to assist with this and support youth coaching etc.

Margaret Down & Neon Reynolds to be Honorary Life Members.

Fundraising

Need fundraiser event to make £700 - £800 in next 12 months – committee to think about this in next meeting and make a plan for an event.

Some suggestions were:

o Cream Teas at Sourton Village Hall

Presentation Evening

Dean would like to propose that there is a joint presentation event for the evening league and Bridestowe Cricket Club as he has a number of trophies to award. He will arrange this for before Christmas.

Bridestowe Cricket Club will have a pre-season dinner/evening event next year and will invite Okehampton players to attend.

Other Matters

It was agreed that What’s App is the best way to communicate with players re: nets sessions, doing ground etc to let everyone know what going on – James is admin for What’s app so need to send mobile number to James who can then add you to group – jimmyewen@gmail.com

It was suggested the need to organise regular team practice to keep the team progressing. This would also require revamping of the nets area to allow practice.
