Post date: Jul 2, 2017 5:53:32 PM

Bridestowe were back to winning ways with a comprehensive victory at home to Shaldon Optimists.

After a lot of rain in the week Bridestowe were stuck into bat on a damp pitch. It couldn’t have been a worse start for the home side as first Phil Hatton was run out without facing a ball and then Rhys Palmer was bowled by Kelsey Falhey (1-41) by one that kept low. Gary Sizmur and Ryan Dennis then steadied the ship with Dennis pulling Falhey for 3 fours in an over. Shortly after he was gone though, LBW to Tshepo Legodi (2-17). Matt Dennis then came in and stuck about before losing his patience and being bowled by Legodi. Sizmur was gone in the next over, LBW to Alex Aitchison (2-34). Chris Lavis also fell to Aitchison leaving the score at 62-6. Brandon Horn struck a couple of boundaries and a big six down the ground before he chipped one back to Mark Couch (3-48). A few balls later and Alex Jopling was gone as well, adjudged LBW to Couch. Skipper Dan Fogerty (42) then began to open up sending anything loose to the fence and superbly supported by Thomas McGrattan (25*) the pair put on a vital 50 partnership to take the score to 136-9. Thomas Boother and McGrattan put on another important 26 for Bridestowe to finish all out for 162.

Chris Lavis (3-29) and Matt Dennis (2-21) took the new ball and bowled tight lines early on. Karl Blackburn was looking to attack everything and this proved his downfall as he pulled a ball from Lavis straight to Brandon Horn at mid-wicket. Woolnough and Espley took the score to 39-1 before Woolnough was caught sharply close in at point by Alex Jopling off the bowling of Dennis. Espley then edged Lavis through to Hatton behind the sticks and Shaldon were 39-3. Lavis then trapped Wilcox LBW and Ballman gave Hatton another catch behind off Dennis. The score was 54-6 when Thomas Boother (3-9) and Alex Jopling (2-3) were introduced. Boother struck with his first ball dismissing Fahey LBW and bowling Lockyer. Jopling then bowled Legodi and Day skied Boother to the safe hands of Dan Fogerty leaving Shaldon at 63-9. Jopling took the last wicket of Aitchinson, stumped by Phil Hatton to seal a satisfying victory for the home side.

Next week Bridestowe travel to Dartington and Totnes with a few key players returning.
