Post date: Jun 5, 2017 9:04:44 AM

Bridestowe ended Babbacombe's unbeaten run with a 46-run win at Walls Hill.

Bridestowe won the toss and batted, with Gary Sizmur (35) and James Ewen (37) putting on 68 for the first wicket. Both openers rode their luck on a difficult wicket with many of the runs coming through the third man area. Spinners Paul Bates (3-37) and Sam Powell (3-46) picked up wickets in the middle overs to slow the run rate. Rhys Palmer (14) struck the ball well until he was caught at long on. Chris Lavis (49) top scored from number six, and looked untroubled until he holed out to deep mid-wicket. Pat Ewen (10) went after the spinners but was bowled by a yorker by the returning Peall (1-33). With wickets falling at the other end, Dan Fogerty (19) went after the bowling to get the score towards 200. Bridestowe finished on 197ao, narrowly missing out on full batting points as Dan Fogerty was bowled by McVeigh (2-44).

The Babbacombe chase got off to a slow start as Chris Lavis (0-15) and Dan Fogerty (1-14) both bowled excellent opening spells. Plenty of Babbacombe's top order got starts; Chris Mabbutt (23), Steve Lewis (25) and Andy Kingdon (22), but wickets fell at regular intervals before any significant partnerships could develop. Matt Dennis (2-35) bowled an economical spell to keep Babbacombe behind the pace. Late call up Tom McGrattan (2-12) got two important wickets as Babbacombe looked to up the run rate. Mike Pugh (30) and Sam Powell (20) gave the hosts a chance but they never really looked like chasing the target. Gary Sizmur (4-37) was held back for the death overs, and picked up four wickets, helped by some great catches. Babbacombe finished 151ao, with excellent fielding from Bridestowe one of the key the differences between the sides.

Next week Bridestowe 1XI host Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough, as the 2XI travel to play the same opposition.
