Chudleigh 2XI vs. Bridestowe 2XI - 25/05/19

The one that will forever be known as the legend of the three first teamers.

So with an interesting side the Mightybriddytwos are off this week to Chudleigh to meet their twos.

First the meet at the Kwicky Mart and we introduced to Johnny and Will, Buzzers mates who have come into help out this week. Buzz for some reason decides that he going to play for the Ones. Batstone comes back from retirement to help out … ‘ you really aren’t good at retirement are you Steve!’

Cars and transport sorted out like the well oiled machine that the Twos are nowadays we set off… ‘Any body payed at Chudleigh before ? … nope… but I hear that they have dropped three first teamers down … oh dear’. Where the fek do we get this intelligence from ? No matter …it must be trusted because it will be true as we are the feared Mightybriddytwos.

Sat nav doesn’t let us down and we easily find a typical village cricket ground outside Chudleigh, tired pavilion but nice enough. First inspection of the wicket …It is rock hard ! A run fest will surely be had ! … oops hold on. What about that intel on the opposition?! … bloody hell best win the toss and put them in.

So as is usual Juts loses the toss and we are batting. Batsone ( retired) and Johnny Knight ( New Boi) are thrown to the Lions. Chudders opens up with spin. Batstone faces first over and hasn’t got friking clue whats going on. Back of the hand? front of the hand? Zooters? Who knows what the bloke is bowling … definitely not the retiree.

First over negotiated.

Second over and Chudders skipper ( Steve Smith ? ) takes it. New Boi off the mark with a 2 last ball of the over.

Shrug of the shoulders in the middle and onward we go. About the 6th over and Retireo and New Boi are starting to wonder about this ‘intelligence’ on the three first teamers that have been dropped in to the side…like where are they ?

New Boi Johnny now starting to find the boundary regularly. Batstone chipping singles and its apparent that beyond their first three bowlers Chudders are definitely light of bowlers. Track playing well though!

Batstone retires himself bowled just before drinks with the score on 60 odd and the Mightybriddytwos looking for a good 150 plus. Ian (Teflon ) Juts out to the crease.

Drinks negotiated well and on we go.

New Boi Johnny next to go for a very respectable 42 on debut. Charles ‘the Krip’ Ewen into the fray 17 a piece each but in relatively quick fire time brings Jacko and Teeshaw to the crease. Teeshaw with his dicky hand ( oops …apparently that’s his other one!) goes early. He walks off… and starts ticking !

Jacko …’I ve scored more than my Dad!’ joined by Skipper Juts … 4 then he is gone. Bomber to the crease… are we dropping off here lads that 150 is disappearing fast, and we have their three first teamers to worry about… they must be batters we decide, because their bowling is a bit pants.

Bomber next to go to a pretty awesome catch to be honest. Has that bloke bowled… no he hasn’t…must be one of the legendary first teamers!

Will Dening ( New Boi 2) to the crease… two off his first ball . Jacko next to go for 7 (yep you did Dad by some way Jack!). Jopps in next … ahh we know Joppers he can put wood on ball. Yep he does that, but chooses to use wooden stump rather than bat. Anth and Will see out the 40 overs.

The score …126. That’s not going to be enough gents given the road that we have just played on and their three first team bats!

Tea was lush apart from the home baked biscuits which came in for a bit of attention.

So with trepidation we walk out to face the three first team batters. On the plus side Teeshaw is fired up and ticking….

Old bloke and the bloke that caught Bomber open their batting ( I don’t do their names ..soz) . As is usual we open with Juts and Teeshaw. Ian (Teflon) hands the gloves inexplicably to New Boi Johnny.

5 off the first over and the Bomber bloke strokes juts beautifully through point for 4. Yeah…this is what we were waiting for/expecting. Teeshaw goes for a single …’ well done Tim for keeping a lid on that’

Juts a double wicket maiden …..YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS! … that’s two of their first team batters surely !

Johnny and Batstone are standing behind the pegs and starting to wonder about the ‘intelligence’ that we had been fed before the game. ‘is it me or did those two not look that great with a bat?’

And thereafter the legend of the first teamers wanes….Teeshaw (8ovrs.1mdn .21runs.3wkts) Juts (8.1.14.4). Anth (3.1.2.2) and Bomber ( 3.0.20.1) Chudleigh First team all out for … TBH I have no idea… because my photo of the score book didn’t cover that bit ! But then I don’t care coz we won

Hi lights of the day…

· Double wicket maiden to remove what were obviously going to be the run reapers at 1 and 3 by Juts.

· Teeshaw getting more and more furious over their #4 (first teamer) that patently couldn’t hold a bat but would not give him his wicket.

· Joppers working out that the three fielders between mid wicket and wide mid off (Jopps/Batters/Charlo Ewen) collective age was about as much as the total number of runs scored in the day.

· An early finish in the sun with a nice cold beer.

· Juts ’where are we playing next week’ …Batstone ‘Don’t care, I am retired’

Ahhhhhh what a lovely game of 2nd team Cricket …except for those three bloody first teamers of course!

So where does that leave us ? in 4th place on a very respectable 58 points with Stoke Gabriel next week …. Bottom of the league on 9 points !
