South Devon 1XI vs. Bridestowe 1XI - 13th May 2017

Post date: May 14, 2017 6:41:57 PM

The weather denied Bridestowe 1XI the chance of a win at South Devon.

Bridestowe lost the toss and were invited to bat first. Gary Sizmur (81) and Ryan Dennis (63) started the innings excellently with a 163-run opening partnership. When Sizmur was out caught trying to hit over the top, Rhys Palmer (37) came to the crease and immediately went after the home bowlers. Wickets tumbled towards the end of the innings as the batsmen looked to up the run rate, Joseph Kitto (3-47) the chief beneficiary. Dinesh Raheja (2-50) and David Knowles (2-37) also picked up a couple of late wickets. However Bridestowe still amassed 239-7, which seemed an imposing total.

The South Devon innings started disastrously as David Knowles was run out without facing a ball in the first over by Ryan Dennis. A couple of chances were then missed as Bridestowe failed to capitalise on some nervous running between the wickets from South Devon, as well as a chance in the slips off Gary Sizmur's bowling. Chris Lavis (1-12) bowled a very accurate opening spell and had Allen caught at cover before the rain arrived. After an hour of rain, the captains and umpires agreed no further play would be possible and so with the score at 33-2 from 10 overs, the match was abandoned. Bridestowe left with 12 points, with the hosts picking up 9 points.
