Bridestowe 1st XI slumped to a 67 run defeat away at Chagford on Saturday with a below par batting display.

Chagford were stuck in to bat and it wasn’t long until Callum Worth was on his way back, caught in short off the bowling of Gary Sizmur (2-27). Sizmur also did for Craig Penberthy caught at slip, which brought together JP van Rensburg (68) and Will Lammonby who took the score to 100-2. Jacob Griffiths then fell to a superb one-handed catch by stand in keeper Phil Hatton off the bowling of Dan Fogerty (1-37). Rensburg was dropped on numerous occasions and frustrated the Bridestowe fielders. Alex Jopling (1-33) did eventually get rid of him as he skied the ball to Jack Barkwell leaving the score at 135-5. Paul Penberthy (42) was then joined by skipper Derek Lammonby (44) and the pair put on a stand of 65 which took Chagord to maximum bonus points. A tight last few overs from Bridestowe meant Chagford finished on 219-6.

The chase started well for Bridestowe with openers Ryan Dennis and Gary Sizmur (42) batting patiently and putting on a partnership of 61 before Sizmur was adjudged to have edged a ball through to the keeper off Derek Lammonby (4-31). Neil Griffiths, Jack Barkwell and Chris Lavis all fell in quick succession to leave the score at 78-4. The Bridestowe batsmen were beginning to get frustrated as runs became hard to come by and the umpire refused to give wides for balls down the leg-side. Dan Fogerty and Brandon Horn both hit a couple of boundaries each before getting themselves out to Callum Worth (4-32) and D. Lammonby respectively. Matt Dennis and Phil Hatton were then both dismissed by Worth and Ryan Dennis lost his patience to be caught off the returning Craig Penberthy (1-26) compounding Bridestowe to 116-9. A late flurry of boundaries from Alex Jopling (29*) was to no avail and Bridestowe were bowled out for 152 in the 31st over.
