"Jayne and I have been hard at it this week and I have been listening to a lot of Radio 3 in the early mornings. One of the best things I heard at about 6 AM was that tune that goes 'dum dum de dum, dum dum de de dum, dum dum dipty dum, dum dum dah... That's the one, the Karelia Suite by Sibelius. In the olden days it was the Sig tune to the telly show 'This Week', a fine tune to wake up to.... but that just missed out and these are tracks that stand out above the rest of what I have heard 'This Week'."

I thought it sounded pretty good even before I was told about the rhyming pattern to the highly politically critical lyrics which Wikipedia says blend bossa nova, MPB, and symphonic musical styles with Afro-Brazilian rhythms to emphasize the 14 syllable verses, each of which ends in a proparoxytone word (a word with the stress on the antepenultimate syllable)."

"Well, RPMers here's the second part of my New Orleans Music Fest. Went to Cafe Beignet for my first breakfast in New Orleans. Beignets are choux type pastries, deep fried and then smothered in icing sugar and added extras like chocolate and strawberries. They are huge and were 3 for $4.50. I failed miserably - only managed 1 and a bit!"

BTW...following your much appreciated (and acted upon) recommendation of Kate Atkinson recently, might I enquire as to whether you've come across Tana French, especially her two most recent novels 'The Searcher' and 'The Hunter'. Where The Road Goes by The Old 97s - "A band comparable perhaps to The Jayhawks. Lead singer Rhett Miller not to be confused with the only other Rhett I can think of, who was a character in a novel and film that waxed nostalgic for the loss of a way of life founded on a slave economy."

"A Bulgarian road trip this week and sadly not much live music to be had. Right place, wrong time seemed to be the theme or probably a distinct lack of research on my part. Anyway the food, wine, beer, museums, architecture, weather and especially the people more than compensated."
