Week 47 - Fri 24th Nov

Welcome to the RPM Seven Day Soundtrack, week ending Friday 24th November 2023. And it's the fun fair edition as we have the annual November fair in the street outside, which is really nice....except the thumping monotony of their techno soundtrack gets a bit...well, monotonous. So looking forward to some proper tunes this week....over to....

"Hi all. I do like to hear live music played in the open air but the summer is a rapidly fading memory and it is time to have to sneak indoors again for a few months.  But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. One of the best festivals that I ever attended was 'Airwaves' in Reykjavik; great fun was had traipsing from venue to venue all around the small city centre.

This week I saw Talisk perform live at the Norwich Arts Centre. It was a sell out show and the band’s performance generated lots of atmosphere and excitement. As a result I have been trolling youtube for purposes of my RPM post and thinking about the way that videos never quite do live performances justice.  But I hope that you can get a bit of the flavour from these vids…"

"First, a band that I truly regret that I never saw live.  Seen here at the top of their game..."

"I did have the privilege of seeing Weather Report with Jacko at The Rainbow in Finsbury Park. Despite all of the gigs that I have been to, that show still remains the greatest live performance I ever attended. Even in a band known for their astounding musical skills Jacko's acrobatic dexterity and inventiveness was outstanding."

Birdland by Weather Report -

"And here are my favourite live band of recent years.  The line up has changed a couple of times since Jayne and I first saw them (and even since this video was made earlier this year) but they remain rather wonderful."

"Weekend greetings to all the good folks out in RPM land and thanks for all your great music last week which I listened to on the way back from London to Norfolk just past midnight on Saturday.

This week after David Hockney's exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery featuring many self portraits, I started on a theme of originals covered by Bob Dylan on his 1970 Self Portrait album.

Thankfully my good friends Piers and Jayne (of this parish) introduced me to some fine new (to me) music ...Talisk."

"And so to start, before the theme was thankfully truncated, here's..."

"Just coming to the end of another spell of looking after their pooch while my son and daughter-in-law get some sun in the Canaries. All was going well until this morning when his walk coincided with howling gale, driving rain and me wishing they'd bought a goldfish instead of a dog. I've been listening to a lot of radio  which you can blame for two of my choices. Best wishes to al."
