Malemute shooters put up impressive scores

FAIRBANKS — The Lathrop Malemutes continued to put up some impressive numbers in a high school rifle match that concluded Tuesday at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Range.

The Malemutes won the air rifle portion of the match shot on Nov. 15 by a count of 2,234-2,031, then posted a 2,084-1,943 in the smallbore portion of the match on Tuesday.

JT Schnering and Erik Kirschner both posted personal best scores of 559 for Lathrop in the air rifle match, while Kasey Barnes registered a match high 564. Connor Gilman added a 552 to round out the Lathrop scoring.

Brenna Welch was North Pole’s top shooter with a 534. Erika Blanchard posted a 530, while Caleb Simmons and Caleb Hull posted personal best scores of 484 and 483, respectively.

Lathrop won the junior varsity match 2,177-1,650. Lathrop shooters with personal best scores were Liam Eberhart with a 554, Joshua Smith with a 550 and Sam Mueller with a 538. North Pole’s Shane Stapp had a personal best 346.

Barmes led the Malemutes in the smallbore match with a 535. Schnering and Gilman added personal best scores of 529 and 522 and Smith registered a 498.

Welch topped the Patriots with a 531 and Jana Armstrong posted a 504. Blanchard registered a 486 and Zach Andrews rounded out the team with a 422.

Lathrop won the junior varsity match 1.994-1,546 and all of the Malemutes posted personal best scores. Eberhart had a 521, Mueller registered a 516, Kirschner tallied a 500 and Spencer Cline had a 457. North Pole’s Simmons had a personal best of 448.

Lathrop’s next match is Dec. 1 at Delta Junction.
